The High Atlas Food Market

The cultivation of rural prosperity is central to our vision of a world where people and nature thrive in harmony. We therefore recognize that rural livelihoods and ecosystem protection are inextricably intertwined. Our targeted efforts have long included smallholder farmers, forest communities, agricultural cooperatives and product consumers. In 2021, we pledged to take further action on our path to help local communities heavily impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

We launched our first edition of the High Atlas Food Market on World Biodiversity Day (May 22, 2021) to promote biodiversity-supporting local products in Marrakech. Since then, we have successfully organized 9 editions, inviting over 40 cooperatives from different regions across the Atlas Mountains. The selection criteria for participating cooperatives include those in need of our support to develop new skills and expand their market reach. Cooperatives that have benefited from our capacity-building program use this event as an opportunity to refine their sales skills in a new setting, gain visibility, and connect with new clients and other business owners.

9 editions, 40 benefited cooperatives, 3000 visitors, 10 succesful partnerhips

The Bio-Cultural Festival of Ait M’hamed - Azilal

The Bio-Cultural Festival of Ait M’hamed Azilal offers a unique approach to biodiversity conservation. This event, which is unprecedented in the High Atlas, serves as a platform for sharing and dialogue among biodiversity guardians and institutional stakeholders, focusing on traditional conservation knowledge and practices.

Featuring a blend of lectures, workshops, and local cultural activities, the festival draws inspiration from traditional Amazigh celebrations such as Moussems, Aggud, and Mouggar—cultural events that honor harvests and nature’s gifts. The festival aims to celebrate and preserve community heritage in all its forms, including sacred sites, landscapes, traditional knowledge, and ancestral land management practices. It underscores the crucial role of Living Territories as our safety net in the face of contemporary uncertainties, biodiversity loss, and interlocking climate change crises.
